Abstract

This project has constructed a pre-European vegetation map of the possible distribution Regional Vegetation Communities (RVCs) for the Namoi CMA area by expert on screen digitising using existing extant vegetation mapping and a combination of field validation traverses, local knowledge and a variety of spatial GIS layers. Lineage

GENERAL APPROACH USED FOR THE NAMOI; Construction of a pre-European vegetation map for the Namoi CMA area used an expert-driven process using existing API-based mapping, extensive field validation and various environmental layers to inform the mapping. The major product that provided the starting point for this exercise was a composite map of extant vegetation that was recently prepared for Namoi CMA (ELA 2009). This composite map used; existing mapping products derived from either API or landuse mapping, and assigned a standard attribution of RVCs (ELA 2008a). RVCs are one level in a hierarchical classification of vegetation types (ELA 2008b) that links NSW vegetation classes (Keith 2004) to RVC then to vegetation types or communities used in the BioMetric assessment tool (DECC 2009). RVCs that are likely to occur in the Namoi CMA area are listed in Appendix A, along with their equivalent Keith class and BioMetric types.; ; References:; DECC (2009).
