Alternative title(s) |
NSW NPWS Conservation Priorities Project - State of the Parks Assessments 2016 |
Abstract |
The Nature Conservation Tool provides management priorities for NSW parks and reserves administered under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. They have been endorsed for release to NPWS staff by the NPWS Directors Group in February 2016. The management priorities where developed by the Conservation Priorities Project during 2010 to 2015. They are based on the combination of priority classes derived from computer models of nature conservation values, threats to those values and the condition of those values. This dataset includes the Nature Conservation Tool management priority categories and information from the 2013 State of the Parks assessments for natural heritage, pest animal and weed management. It includes an assessment of (1) the sufficiency of information available to support planning and decision making for natural heritage in a park; (2) overall approach to management of natural heritage, pest animals and weeds; (3) the effect that the current management approach is having on the negative impacts associated with natural heritage, pest animals and weeds. More information on the Nature Conservation Tool, including a user guide, maps, tables and presentation, can be found on the OEH EHub at http://ehub/parkmgmt/NatureConservationTool.htm. The Tool will be updated when new information becomes available, such as the 2017 State of the Parks assessment. When this occurs, a full review will determine whether other new datasets should be included in the models. More information on the 2013 State of the parks assessments can be found at the OEH EHub page at http://ehub/sopapp/. |

Additional information source |
The Nature Conservation Tool is based primarily on the NPWS State of the Parks 2013 context assessments. Accordingly, the spatial analyses undertaken of other relevant datasets was undertaken using the NPWS Estate as it was in June 2013. Since that time some parks and reserves have changed status (e.g. SCA to NR) and this information (June 2013 & post-June 2013) has been retained in the attribute table of the dataset. |

Lineage |
The spatial extent of the datasets was derived by combining the NPWS Estate datasets for (1) Gazetted, (2) Vested, (3) Crown Managed, and (4) Not Gazetted. This was then combined with the State of the Parks 2013 assessment units to provide the analyses extent and unique identifier attribution which as based on the Reserve Code used in the State of the Parks database. This datasets provides the basis for the spatial extent and distribution of the Nature Conservation Tool Management Priorities 2016. It also formed the basis for spatial analyses used in the computer models of (1) nature conservation values, (2) threats to those values and (3) the condition of those values. |
