Alternative title(s)

SEPP Coastal management - CUA

Abstract

This Spatial dataset identifies Coastal use area (CUA). The CUA represents land adjacent to ocean, estuary and lake waters where controls relate to public foreshore and beach access, scenic qualities and visual and cultural amenity. Essentially the land adjacent to the water areas defined by the CEA, except for Coastal Lakes and Sensitive Coastal Lakes

Purpose

This dataset aims to promote an integrated and co-ordinated approach to land use planning in the coastal zone in a manner consistent with the objects of the Coastal Management Act 2016, including the management objectives for each coastal management area, by mapping the 4 coastal management areas that comprise the NSW coastal zone for the purpose of the definitions in the Coastal Management Act 2016.

Sydney

Definition: All area within the Greater Sydney Region. Lineage: PlanningDB.SDE.Greater_Sydney_Region

Open Coast

Definition: Area between LGA boundaries and NSW Coastal Water boundary (as mapped in the Commonwealth Coastal Waters (State and Northern Territory Powers) Act 1980) Lineage: GDB from Geoscience Australia: http://www.ga.gov.au/metadata-gateway/metadata/record/gcat_83172 on 19 June 2017.

Estuary

Any part of a river, lake, lagoon or coastal creek whose level is periodically or intermittently affected by coastal tides, up to the highest astronomical tide. Lineage: Estuaries datasets in OEH Information Asset Register http://data.environment.nsw.gov.au/dataset/estuaries12439

Coastal Lake

As defined by mapping within the Coastal Management SEPP. These lakes are mapped using the LPI ‘HydroArea’ data that was originally created using aerial photography interpretation coupled with extensive field data capture and ground-truthing. Lineage: LPI ‘HydroArea’ data *Additional Details: Parameters for mapping include a 500m outward buffer from the lake boundary

Sensitive Coastal Lake

As defined by mapping within the Coastal Management SEPP. These lakes are mapped using the LPI ‘HydroArea’ data that was originally created using aerial photography interpretation coupled with extensive field data capture and ground-truthing. Lineage: LPI ‘HydroArea’ data. *Additional Details: Parameters for mapping include a 500m outward buffer from the lake boundary + the lake catchment area.
